“the rest of us just live here” // original song

“Not everyone has to be the Chosen One. Not everyone has to be the guy who saves the world. Most people just have to live their lives the best they can, doing things that are great for them, having great friends, trying to make their lives better, loving people properly. All the while knowing that the world makes no sense but trying to find a way to be happy anyway.”

Second of all: posting schedule. I never thought the day would come.. where I actually decide to post consistently. I deserve an award, seriously. But yea, from now on, I’ll be posting every Friday, and sometimes, on Tuesdays. Capiche?
The Rest of us Just Live Here is a book by Patrick Ness, which I loved. Gerry @ The BookNook UK said something I loved- you’ve got to be emotionally robust to read Patrick Ness. And it’s so true!

So I bet you’ve read those books about teenagers who save the world from impending doom, about to strike the city (or the world). I mean, every reader has. This book presents the other side of the story- what happens to the other kids in the meantime while the indie kids (haha, I’m now calling them that. it’s your fault, patrick ness) are saving the world?

The story is from a high schooler (in senior year), Mikey, who realizes that not everyone NEEDS to be the Chosen One. It shows how everyone has so much in front of their eyes, so much to look forward to in life. We just have to learn how to be happy through the chaos that is your life and the world.

And me being me, I decided I would ruin the book by creating a trashy song about.
(insert laughing + crying)

Maybe I’ll record it one day..

So without further ado..
– drumroll-
It’s the song!
(cue the sad little confetti cannon in the corner)

[intro]
The indie kids cry their last rebel tears
Fighting battle after battle, it becomes lonely through the years
Those blue lights and the death live up to their name
All in time to meet its deadly fame

While we-eee
We’re just here
Hoverin’ long the edges
Like nobody’s here

It’s hard
But trouble chases us on a leash
Like an unwanted friend
We try to be faithful
But the zombie deer still lay

It’s hard to resist
But harder to leave

[verse 1]
We worry about our prom dates and which corset looks loveliest
Occasionally how to get rid-
Rid of our compulsive loops
As if our illness was a leech
Pools of suffocating thoughts we drown in
Does she like me?
Or does she like me not?
Pursuing feelings instead of life forces
It’ll all be over soon

[pre-chorus]
See this is how it works
The chosen ones go wander
To meet their insatiable hunger and need
To meet the Prince of Immortals and rid the vessels
Of ever-lasting powers
While the rest of us just live here

[chorus]
We never know if it’s our last dance
Too much going on
Making the most of what we can
Trying to save The Source of All Light
Not much we can do
Except muster up our might
Cuz’ we’re always on the outside
We’re always on the outside

[bridge]
4 more weeks before it all ends
Counting down the days, it can’t be much longer
Cops are growing vexed and the townspeople dying
4 more weeks
Just 4 more weeks
Can we make it?
4 more weeks
Just 4 more weeks, it’ll all be over then

[chorus]
We never know if it’s our last dance
Too much going on
Making the most of what we can
Trying to save The Source of All Light
Not much we can do
Except muster up our might
Cuz’ we’re always on the outside
We’re always on the outside

[outro]
The indie kids
They only ever talk amongst themselves
Our friends wait insufferable moments, the clock a rhythm to our short breaths
Sharing secrets about town anomalies
They’re off along the Immortal Crux
Patching up the rips of the boundaries between worlds
Listening to nothing but jazz along to poetry
The rest of us just live here
Getting through this all together now, we will slay our demons and create brave new worlds
A war is brewing, the wrathful humming deep in our stomachs

We feel love

Making our own happiness through the chaos that is this world
Sparking a thousand flares in duende for our loved ones
We create our beginnings out of endings

After a-a-all
The rest of us just live here.

Wow… you are so artistic! The lyrics to this song are amazing, and I’m saying that without even having read the book yet! I can’t even imagine how it would sound if you put it together in a song with music and everything! Do record it! And keep sharing this type of stuff because we really love reading it. ❤️ Great work.
